Our Story
Prévaut began with a family heirloom: my great-grandfather's pocket watch, engraved simply with "Prévaut", our family name. The engraving on the caseback has softened with time, legible now only with a loupe while the case has acquired warmth from every hand it passed through from France to Germany before travelling with me to London wound it for the last century, keeping it running.
Within the Dansaekhwa painters I found the language to what the watch had always been. Standing before Park Seo-bo's Ecriture series at Johyo Gallery in Busan in 2018, I stayed for a long time. Layer upon layer of paint, scored and pressed until time became texture. My watch had been accumulating the same way for a hundred years.
